Eleven to twelve nights is the only realistic way to combine Misool, Central Raja Ampat and Wayag in a single voyage. The three regions sit at the corners of a very large triangle, and each corner costs an overnight repositioning leg. This expedition takes the south first — Magic Mountain, Boo Windows, Four Kings — then works north through the Dampier Strait and the Fam Islands to Kawe and Wayag. Indicative cost: USD 300–700 per person per night depending on vessel, or from roughly USD 4,500 per night for a whole-boat charter, plus about IDR 1,700,000 in government fees.
There is a version of Raja Ampat that most visitors never see, and it is not hidden — it is simply far apart. Misool’s limestone pinnacles sit roughly 150 kilometres south of the Dampier Strait; Wayag lies a similar distance north-west. You cannot sample both on a week. What you can do, with eleven nights and a boat that keeps moving while you sleep, is see the entire archipelago as the single connected system it actually is.
What is the route, leg by leg?
Board in Sorong (SOQ) around mid-morning and motor-sail four to six hours into the Dampier Strait for a check dive that same afternoon. Overnight, the boat runs south to Misool — the longest passage of the trip — and you wake among the karst of the southern group for three or four days of diving that most people rate the best in Indonesia. Working back north, the boat crosses again overnight to the central sites, spends two or three days on Cape Kri, Manta Sandy, Blue Magic and the Fam Islands, then makes a final overnight run north-west to Kawe and Wayag before returning to Sorong.

What is Misool actually like?
Different enough from the north that it feels like another country. Magic Mountain is a seamount cleaning station where both reef and oceanic manta rays appear alongside pelagics — the single most spectacular manta site in Raja Ampat when it fires. Boo Windows is defined by two arch “windows” cut through a limestone ridge, framed against blue water with soft coral crowding the rock. Four Kings is a set of pinnacles that reward good buoyancy with fans, schooling fish and a real sense of scale. Fiabacet and Goa Besar fill out days that never feel repetitive.

Government fees are separate and apply to every visitor: the marine park entry permit at IDR 700,000 for foreign nationals (IDR 425,000 for Indonesians, valid twelve months, multi-entry) and the regency visitor entry ticket at IDR 1,000,000 for foreigners (IDR 300,000 for Indonesians) — roughly IDR 1,700,000 in total for a foreign guest. Figures as of July 2026 and confirmed at booking. Raja Ampat is a regionally managed marine protected area network, not a national park, which is why there are two separate charges.
Why does this trip sell out first?
Because supply is tight in a way the shorter products are not. Any vessel in Raja Ampat can run a six-night central loop; only a fraction schedule eleven- and twelve-night routes, because those routes consume a whole booking cycle and require a boat comfortable on longer passages. In the December-to-March window, the long expeditions are frequently sold a year in advance, whole-boat charters go before cabins, and the master and deluxe cabins go before the twins.
Practical advice: if you want a specific December or January departure, enquire twelve months out. If your dates are flexible, late October, November and April carry the same route at lower demand — with the caveat that the Wayag leg is more weather-exposed at the season edges.
How fit and experienced do you need to be?
This is the most demanding scheduled itinerary we sell, and the honest requirements are:
- Diving. Advanced certification with fifty or more logged dives is the comfortable level. Magic Mountain, Four Kings, Blue Magic and Cape Kri are current sites requiring a reef hook, negative entries and reliable buoyancy. Less experienced divers are welcome but will sit out some sites, which is a poor use of an eleven-night fare.
- Sea legs. Two or three overnight passages, including the Misool crossing, which is open water. If you are strongly motion-sensitive, this route will test you.
- Fitness. The Wayag viewpoint is a steep scramble over sharp limestone. It is optional; the rest of the trip is not physically demanding.
What happens if weather closes Wayag or the Misool crossing?
The route changes, and it changes at the captain’s discretion rather than by a printed schedule. Published Raja Ampat itineraries list Wayag as weather dependent for good reason, and reputable operators re-route rather than push an exposed crossing. In practice the substitutions are:

No refund is due for weather re-routing on any liveaboard in this market — that is standard and it is worth knowing before you sign. Frequently asked questions
Can I do Misool and Wayag in fewer than eleven nights?
Not with time in both. Nine or ten nights buys you Central plus one of the two. Eleven to twelve is the shortest honest combination.
How many dives will I log?
Usually 32 to 38 — three a day on full dive days plus optional night dives, minus the passage mornings.
Is Magic Mountain guaranteed for mantas?
No. It is a genuine cleaning station with both reef and oceanic manta records, and encounter rates in season are among the best anywhere, but it is wildlife. Treat guarantees as a warning sign.
Which direction is better — Misool first or Wayag first?
Misool first is the more common shape because it puts the longest passage on the first night when guests are freshest, and leaves the flexible northern leg near the end where it can be dropped without wrecking the itinerary.
Can we charter the whole boat for eleven nights?

Do I need nitrox?
Not required, but on a trip with 30-plus dives many guests find it worth the supplement for shorter surface intervals and less fatigue. Availability varies by vessel.
Is the far north worth it, honestly?
For scenery, yes — Wayag is genuinely extraordinary. For diving, Kawe is good rather than exceptional. Divers whose only metric is bottom time sometimes prefer nine nights with more Misool. We will tell you that on the phone.
How do we get to Sorong?
Fly to Sorong (SOQ) — the local abbreviation “DEO” is not the booking code. Roughly four to four and a half hours from Jakarta (CGK), about two hours from Makassar (UPG), one and a half to two hours from Manado (MDC). Arrive the day before departure.
What is the deposit and cancellation structure?
Typically 25 to 50 per cent at confirmation with the balance due 60 to 90 days out; long expeditions often carry stricter terms because the vessel cannot resell them quickly. Exact terms come with your quote.
